PLASTIC FREE
Plastic production is an incredibly resource intensive process. It involves the extraction of crude oil and a highly toxic and environmentally detrimental pathway to form the vast amount of plastic products that we see available almost everywhere we look. Plastic was once thought to be ingenious, and in a way it is, it's strong and durable, easy to manipulate and in some cases, it can be reformed and repurposed. But sadly, it's turning out to cause issues that are becoming out of our control.
When we throw away plastic, it goes from our bin and into landfill. And when we think we're recycling plastic, it's actually being sent abroad and piled up in landfills outside of recycling plants that are overflowing and unable to keep up with the rate of consumption. This is causing devastating effects to the quality of life and the environment in these parts of the world. The weather pattern and lack of infrastructures in places, often leads to the plastic leaking from these sites and into rivers and ultimately the ocean. This is true for rubbish sites all over the world. At least 8 million tons of plastic from all over the world end up in our oceans every year, and make up 80% of all marine debris from surface waters to deep-sea sediments. Sadly, marine species can ingest or become entangled in plastic debris, which causes severe injuries and often deaths.
For these reasons, we do not use any plastic in our products. Our razors are made from rust resistant zinc and the blades from stainless steel.
RECYCLE RECYCLE RECYCLE
Aphrodite Razors are packaged in fully recyclable cardboard packaging and all our envelopes are recyclable, reusable or compostable. Our blades are also fully recyclable and this can easily be done by sending them to a nearby recycling unit.
